Editorial: Senate gets another shot at redemption

The bill would curb the unfair influence that powerful special interests -- such as businesses and unions -- have from making large contributions to political parties. So what kind of reaction is the House legislation getting?

Some senators oppose the legislation, asserting it would infringe on free speech. The fact is most incumbents oppose it because it hurts their re-election chances.

The Senate already rejected a similar plan. But let's hope the Republican leadership finds the courage this time to pass this historic legislation and put the concerns of the people first.
