Bull run promoter delays presentation when Mesquite City Council backers don't show

The Mesquite City Council was supposed to consider a five-year contract with Phil Immordino Tuesday night, but he pulled the item off the agenda.

Immordino said two of the council members he was counting on did not show up and he didn't want to run the risk of the idea being rejected.

The council voted 3-2 in May to allow the bull run - a promotion emulating the annual running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain.

Immordino said with two of the original three council backers not on hand for Tuesday night's meeting, he postponed presenting the idea for two weeks.

This year's run was originally scheduled down Mesquite Boulevard, which is the business route for Interstate 15. It was moved to a ranch on the outskirts of Mesquite when the state balked at the idea.

Thousands of people turned out last month to watch more than 600 hardy souls run from the bulls. Three minor injuries were reported.
