Letter: Prisoners should not be used for phone soliciting

To Howard Skolnik, director of Prison Industries, I say, "What are you thinking? Are you nuts?" To Prison Director Bob Bayer, your responsibility is to quash this plan. Money does not justify the risk.

Most inmates finally reach prison after they have been involved in many more crimes than were adjudicated. Just think of all the legal maneuvers that have been played, i.e. reduction of murder to manslaughter on a plea agreement. Juries are rarely allowed to hear the whole story as evidence is suppressed by weak judges and/or lawyer gamesmanship. There is little respect for a judiciary where truth is second to motions to suppress evidence, where predators/inmates are released due to overcrowding at the expense of the people. Now this?

What about our right to feel secure in our homes. Is there something wrong with the rapist killer of Sherice Iverson, or someone like him, calling my home, talking to my little girl on the phone under the guise of Prison Industry? Is it all right someone like him calls your home?
