New home sales, number of new residents down in May

Gaming revenues were also flat compared with 1997 figures, a possible sign that the city's hot economy is beginning to cool.

There were 5,434 new residents in May, compared to 6,251 for the same month a near ago. The figures are based on the number of out-of-state drivers' licenses surrendered to the Nevada Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety.

Figures show there were 1,656 new home sales in May, compared to 1,674 a year ago.

Total employment was up 4.7 percent, from 628,800 a year ago to 658,500 this May.

Gaming revenues were $537 million, off $500,000 from a year ago.

Taxable sales were $1.49 billion, up from $1.40 billion a year ago.
