Residents in the southwest Reno neighborhood opposed the expansion of Sage Ridge School, saying it will encroach upon open space they say they were promised in a neighborhood development agreement.
But county commissioners, in a 3-2 vote, upheld approval by planning commissioners of a special use permit to expand the 14,000-square-foot middle school to a 95,000-square-foot campus.
About 100 sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students will attend the school when it opens Sept. 9.
School officials said they hope to have the expansion completed by the fall semester of next year.
