Letter: National conference touts work for senior citizens

Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., and Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev., spoke to us and gave their support. Reid received the Claude Pepper award for his efforts on behalf of seniors. President Clinton was the speaker for our closing banquet meeting.

This was a concerted effort to show congressmen strong support for the two most important programs ever enacted in this country -- Social Security and Medicare. This senior group lived through the Great Depression and will continue to work to see that it remains intact for the generations who are now paying into social security.
