Detectives clear two officers accused of beating suspect

Acting Carlin Police Chief Jess Coleman and Officer Tom Collins were accused by the boy and his mother of hitting the youth over the head with a baton during an arrest last Sunday.

Harris said eyewitnesses disputed the boy's version of what occurred.

The youth was charged with probation violation, being a minor in possession of alcohol, eluding an officer and resisting arrest.

He was booked into the Elko Juvenile Detention Center with stitches in his head.

Mike Simonsen, chief juvenile probation officer, said he was told by officers that the boy hurt himself by repeatedly hitting his head against the screen between the front and back seats of the patrol car.
