Police sergeant accused of sexual harassment resigns

Brian Downs, an eight-year veteran of the force, quit to go into business with his wife, who recently opened a Fallon insurance office.

Downs declined comment on the complaint filed against him by a police dispatcher.

"I'm going to let it lie," he told the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard.

Police Chief Don Phipps said an internal investigation into the charge is continuing, but no action can be taken against Downs if the allegation proves true.

The results of the probe will be placed into his personnel file, the chief added.
