Obituaries for August 17, 1998

Jeffrey C. Biddle, 19, of Las Vegas died Friday. He was born Oct. 10, 1978, in Santa Monica, Calif. A resident for one year, he was a student and a security officer in Henderson.

He is survived by his parents, Stephen and Marie Biddle, and one brother, Gregory Biddle, all of Henderson; and his grandmother, Freda Biddle of Sun Valley, Idaho.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

VERNA L. BOVEE

Verna L. Bovee, 77, of Pahrump died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Omaha, Neb. A resident for 6 1/2 years, she was a retired warranty clerk in the automotive industry.

She is survived by four sons, Joseph Tietjens of Chicago, James Tietjens and Victor Bovee, both of Pahrump and Michael Bovee of Riverside, Calif.; two daughters, Nancy Tietjens and Mary Marsalek, both of Pahrump; one sister, Helen Griffin of Payson, Ariz.; 18 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

TRACEY ALBERT GORRINGE

Tracey Albert Gorringe, 20, of Henderson died Friday in Clark County. He was born March 8, 1978, in Burley, Idaho. A resident for one year, he was a chef in the food service industry.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sandra and Mark Viau of Henderson; his father and stepmother, Kenneth and Marsha Gorringe of Burley; four brothers, Spencer Gorringe, Nicholas Gorringe, Nicholas Viau and Sean Viau, and two sisters, Brittiney Viau and Destoney Viau, all of Las Vegas; his grandparents, Don Holmes, Jim and Naomi Lynch, and Dee and Beverly Gorringe, all of Burley, Richard and Colleen Adams of Jerome, Idaho, and Lawrence and Elsie Viau of Las Vegas; and his great-grandmother, Ora Andersen of Burley.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

MATTHEW DAVID MOWEN

Matthew David Mowen, 19, of Henderson died Friday in Clark County. He was born Feb. 10, 1979, in Davenport, Iowa. A resident for seven years, he was a student.

He is survived by his parents, David and Cindy Mowen, and one sister, Jennifer Mowen, all of Henderson; his grandparents, James and Doris Bright of Norwalk, Iowa, and Dorothy and Ivan Marckmann of St. Charles, Iowa; and his great-grandparents, Doris Mowen of Des Moines, Iowa, and Karl and Eleanor Stuempfle of Williamsport, Pa.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 5 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

ORTIE D. 'NICK' POWERS

Ortie D. "Nick" Powers, 72, of Las Vegas died Saturday. He was born March 8, 1926, in Gibson County, Ind. A resident for 41 years, he was a slot mechanic at Slots of Fun and an Army veteran.

He is survived by wife, Mary L.; two sons, Nick Powers and Kurt Powers; five daughters, Sharon, Waunita, Kretchen, Kathy and Doris; three sisters, Joy, Wanda and Gloria; 16 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 4:30 p.m. today in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

RAYMOND LEO RUFF

Raymond Leo Ruff, 45, of Las Vegas died Saturday. He was born Oct. 5, 1952, in Montana. A resident for five years, he was a charter sales supervisor for Coach USA.

He is survived by his wife, Audra Kay; five sisters, Lia Byars, Rita Ruff, Carol Rieker, Jan Kron and Theresa Barthuly.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Community Lutheran Church. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

SAMUEL M. RYAN

Samuel M. Ryan, 12 weeks, died Aug. 8 in a local hospital. He was born May 12, 1998, in Las Vegas.

He is survived by his father, Preston Ryan, and his mother, Tina Burton, both of Las Vegas; and his grandparents, Charlene Williams and William Griffin, both of Las Vegas, and Betty Ryan of Chicago.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Tuesday in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.

BETH DIXON HOGAN YIAVASIS

Beth Dixon Hogan Yiavasis, 50, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born April 13, 1948, in Los Angeles. A resident for 38 years, she was a hospital registered nurse and a member of the Association of Operating Room Nurses.

She is survived by her father, W.G. Bill Dixon, and one brother, Bob Dixon, both of Las Vegas.

Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is arranging private graveside services.
