Building permits the first half of the year made Washoe County second in the nation for single-home starts. Only Daytona Beach, Fla., is growing faster.
A construction industry newsletter said permits grew by 31 percent in Washoe County through June compared to the first six months of 1997.
Daytona Beach increased 37 percent, according to the publication U.S. Housing Markets.
Low interest rates are credited for the rapid growth around Reno, as families rush into affordable entry-level homes.
