Action delayed on pedestrian bridges

The Clark County Commission delayed a decision Tuesday about how the cost to build two pedestrian bridges over Las Vegas Boulevard will be split among Strip casinos.

The county offered to foot half of the $12.8 million cost to construct the bridges, and asked that hotel-casinos that will benefit from the projects to pay the remaining amount.

Hotel-casino representatives are arguing about who will benefit most and how the funding program should be set up. The two bridges are to connect Caesars Palace to Barbary Coast and Barbary Coast to Bally's.

Neighboring casinos balked at Flamingo Hilton officials latest proposal to build yet another bridge that would connect Caesars to the Hilton. If the proposal is accepted, five bridges would exist at the Flamingo Road-Las Vegas Boulevard intersection.

The commission rescheduled the item for its Sept. 1 meeting.
