Miller appoints Denton to Las Vegas judicial seat

"Mr. Denton brings a solid background of legal experience to the bench," Miller said. "I am confident in his abilities and integrity."

Denton, 46, was one of three candidates being considered to fill the vacancy left when Chairez resigned in May to run for Congress. Kenneth C. Cory, 54, of Henderson, who is in private practice in Las Vegas, and Philip Kohn, 47, a deputy in the Clark County public defender's office, were also nominated.

Denton, a native of Nevada, received his undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Reno in 1973 and his law degree from Georgetown University Law Center in 1976.

He has worked with the Las Vegas law firm of Denton & Denton, Ltd. since 1976. He has served as an alternative juvenile court referee for District Court, an associate Municipal Court judge in Boulder City and a Nevada Supreme Court settlement judge.
