Cody was delivering The Record-Courier with his mother last Wednesday when he heard a cry for help. His mom called 911.
Paramedics arrived and took the woman to Carson-Tahoe Hospital. A friend said the woman had suffered a heart attack and lay on the floor for several hours until Cody came by just before daybreak. She's resting at home after five days in the hospital.
Neither she nor the victim wanted their names used.
Record-Courier General Manager Matt Bodourian said the twice-weekly paper expects a lot from its carriers, but Cody went above and beyond those expectations.
"Being a community newspaper means making that extra effort that affects your neighborhood and your subscribers' lives," he said.
