Dog saves woman from fire

Fire officials said the dog pawed at the woman, who awoke to find the house on fire around 7:30 a.m. Friday.

The woman, who wasn't identified, and the dogs fled, said Gabe Litvin, a management assistant for the South Lake Tahoe Fire Department.

The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, he said.

Damage to the structure was estimated at $125,000 and damage to the contents was pegged at $30,000, he added. Two cats in the home died.

The cause of the fire apparently was furniture that had been moved over a furnace grate in the floor.
