Obituaries for August 24, 1998

Virginia Stewart Beaty, 51, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 13, 1947, in Cedar City, Utah. A resident for 36 years, she was a change person in the gaming industry.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry R.; two daughters, Sheri Carrillo and Sandy Henderson, one son, Jerry Beatty Jr., and one sister, Marilyn Nickel, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Jerry Stewart of Jacksonville, Ore.; and 10 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in the LDS South Stake Center, 6601 W. Twain Ave. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

DAVID CARTER

David Carter, 57, of Las Vegas died Aug. 14 in Las Vegas. He was born July 20, 1941, in Louisiana. A resident for 32 years, he was a truck driver and a member of the Masons.

He is survived by two daughters, Una Carter and Hope Carter; four brothers, James Henry Carter, Leandra Carter, Jean Carter and Ronald Carter; one sister, Mary Carter; and three grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

BERTHA A. MACKRODT

Bertha A. Mackrodt, 93, of Henderson died Aug. 12 in Henderson. She was born May 8, 1905, in Camas Valley, Ore. A resident for 35 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, May Ulloa of Henderson and Grace Mecham of Portland, Ore.; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

THOMAS J. MINOIA

Thomas J. Minoia, 81, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 3, 1917, in Chicago. A resident for nine years, he was a retired government pilot, a World War II and Korean War Air Force veteran and a member of the Glitter Gulch Railroad Club.

He is survived by his wife, Ann; two daughters, Andrea Ferriola of River Grove, Ill., and Therese Canonico of Las Vegas; one son, Anthony Flando of Chicago; one brother, Michael J. Minoia of San Antonio; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

The family suggests donations to Sacred Heart Monastery, P.O. Box 900, Hales Corners, WI 53130-0900.

RUTHIE LEE MINOR

Ruthie Lee Minor, 71, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 19, 1926, in James, Texas. A resident for 20 years, she was a retired retail manager.

She is survived by three daughters, Brenda Ainsworth of Las Vegas, Sheri Stout of Tulsa, Okla., and Vicki Shams Marzluff of Plano, Texas; two sisters, Bessie Gant of Mesquite, Texas, and Joyce Hunt of Dallas; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

RICHARD FREDRICK POTTER

Richard Fredrick Potter, 68, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 4, 1930, in Ladysmith, Wis. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired Army master sergeant and Korean War and Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; four daughters, Joann NeSmith of Pensacola, Fla., Bonnie Potter of Oaks, N.D., and Carol Potter and Betty Fitzgerald, both of Las Vegas; three sons, Raymond Potter and James Potter, both of Las Vegas, and Gary Potter of Henderson; his mother, Avis Warner, and one sister, Phoebe Ferguson, both of Oaks; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

JACK LADELLE STALLCUP

Jack Ladella Stallcup, 76, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 10, 1921, in Texas. A resident for 30 years, he was an entertainer, a member of Hotel Sales Management Association of Southern Nevada, Musicians Local 369 and lifetime member of Masonic Lodge Genesis 305 of Mount Lake Terrace, Wash.

He is survived by his wife, DeLois.

A private burial will be in Paradise Memorial Gardens. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.
