BLM protests trespass decision

The BLM asserts that the decision by the Interior Board of Land Appeals did not consider the BLM's response to the Dann's appeal of the trespass order.

"Our position remains that we would like the Danns to voluntarily comply with the law by removing their livestock and structures that are in trespass on public lands," said BLM spokeswoman Jo Simpson. "We continue to work with the Danns toward a resolution."

The BLM served trespass notices on the Danns in February for unauthorized grazing and having semi-permanent structures and other personal property on public land.

"I doubt that the Western Shoshone can get justice from any U.S. court, but at least we can breathe a little easier now that the BLM cannot come in at any time and destroy our livelihood and way of life," Carrie Dann said in a statement.

Christopher Sewall of the Western Shoshone Defense Project said the stay deals only with structures, the hot springs and encampment issues, not with grazing matters.
