Letter: Rulings by ethics state panel seem to let Jones off hook

Reese fully disclosed his friendship with Bank West President Larry Woodrum at the City Council meeting when the Nick's Fish Market application appeared on the agenda. Jones did not reveal hers', or her new husband's friendship with William Boyd at the same meeting.

Reese was found guilty by the Nevada Ethics Commission of violating ethics laws by not abstaining on the Fish Market vote; Jones was found innocent for voting on the application.

I cannot understand why Reese, who fully disclosed his long-term friendship with Bank West employee Woodrum, was punished while Jones, who did not disclose a similar, but much more profitable relationship with Woodrum's boss, was exonerated.

Am I imagining that there was a double standard exercised by the Ethics Commission? Was Reese punished for telling the truth to the public and Jones exonerated for withholding information?
