Letter: Smoking a decision children of today should not make

In reply to Calvin Prenosil's sarcastic and ill-informed letter as a reply to Orville Goplen's letter on teen smoking (Aug. 9), the children of today are going to be the leaders of tomorrow and they had better take care of their health or they will never reach real maturity.

Smoking is an early and unwise alternative to death and miserable health like emphysema, to say nothing about how expensive and addicting it is and how obnoxious to nonsmokers like me.

Republicans receive horrendous amounts of money from tobacco companies, which accounts for their support for those death-dealing tobacco companies.

Even R.J. Reynolds' son and heir said before his early death how abhorrent tobacco is and he regretted his family's involvement in it. It killed him!

Incidentally, Mr. Prenosil, there are no poor Democrats. We are rich in our helpful involvement in fighting for the rights of all our citizens, even Republicans.
