Mesquite council set to consider bull run proposal

The five-member Mesquite City Council is expected to decide that question tonight.

Phoenix promoter Phil Immordino wants to hold the bull run in the small Nevada town for the next five year years, beginning next July.

The event was held on the outskirts of Mesquite July 11, drawing some 600 runners and an estimated 7,000 spectators.

Immordino wants to hold future runs at the Mesquite Rodeo Grounds.

Immordino pulled the proposal from the council agenda two weeks ago when two of the council members favoring the plan were absent. The bull run - which emulates the running of the bulls in Pamplona, Spain - was approved by the council in May for one year on a 3-2 vote.

The bull run was originally planned down Mesquite Boulevard, the city's main street, but that plan was blocked by the Nevada Transportation Department. The boulevard is the business route for Interstate 15.
