Visitor count up for June, still down for year

The new figures show visitor volume was up 1.1 percent in June, while hotel occupancy was up 2.3 percent over 1997.

The city's convention attendance took a hit, down 18.1 percent over June 1997 because a major tradeshow held here last year rotated to a different city, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

The visitor count for June was 2,443,892, compared to 2,417,989 a year ago. For the first six months of 1998, the figure is 15,075,791, compared to 15,289,817 a year ago.

Hotel occupancy rates were 90.3 percent in June 1998 compared to 88 percent a year ago. For the year, the rates are down 1.1 percent, 90.8 percent compared to 91.9 percent for the first six months of 1997.
