Obituaries for August 28, 1998

Sefronia Blanche, 50, of North Las Vegas died Saturday in North Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 13, 1947, in Crossett, Ark. A resident for 45 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Cornell Blanche, and two daughters, Cheryl Marie Blanche and Shaun Denise Blanche, all of Las Vegas; three brothers, John Arthur Cromwell, Charles Cromwell Jr. and James Cromwell, and two sisters, Lubertha Watkins and Geraldine Cromwell, all of North Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren and one grandchild.

Visitation was scheduled 11 a.m. until 1 pm. services today in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane, followed by burial in Woodlawn Cemetery.

ALDA CAREY

Alda Carey, 76, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local care hospital. She was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Monfalcone, Italy. A resident for 30 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by four sons, Richard L. Carey, Leslie F. Carey, Corrado R. Carey and Lance S. Carey, all of Las Vegas; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Saturday in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd. Burial will follow Palm Memorial Park-Northwest.

MARIA C. GELATO

Maria C. Gelato, 29, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 16, 1969, in Italy. A resident for seven years, she was an assistant manager for a shoe store.

She is survived by her husband, Nick, two sons, Michael Gelato and Vincent Gelato; and one daughter, Nicole Gelato, all of Las Vegas.

A memorial service is scheduled 10 a.m. Saturday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave.

CALVIN JOSEPH GALLAGHER

Calvin Joseph Gallagher, 73, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 17, 1924, in Philadelphia. A resident for 18 years, he was a salesman, World War II Marine Corps veteran and a past member of the Culinary and Teamsters unions.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; three sons, Robert Gallagher of New Jersey, Calvin Gallagher of Florida and Daniel Gallagher of Las Vegas; one sister, Leona Piechotka; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be noon Monday in Davis Paradise Valley Chapel, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will be 2:15 p.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

WILLARD P. MILLER

Willard P. Miller, 78, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospice. A resident for 15 years, he was born Jan. 19, 1920, and was a construction metal worker.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday in Woodlawn Cemetery. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

GILVA T. MYERS

Gilva T. Myers, 89, of Henderson died Wednesday in a local care center. She was born June 20, 1909, in Hebron, Utah. A resident for 34 years, she was a retired sales clerk for a department store.

She is survived by four daughters, Roma J. Williams of Henderson, RaNae DeGraw of West Jordan, Utah, Shirlean Arns of West Valley, Utah, and Karolyn M. Nightingale of Melba, Idaho; one son, F. DeWayne Myers of Kaysville, Utah; one sister, Violet T. Bunker of Las Vegas; 17 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 6-8 p.m today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson with additional visitation one hour prior to 11 a.m. services Saturday in Palo Verde LDS Chapel. Burial will be in Utah. Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

WILLIAM RUSSELL

William Russell, 60, of Las Vegas died Aug. 22 in North Las Vegas. He was born January 1, 1938, in Coushatta, La. A resident for 36 years, he was a carpenter and Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Regina D. Russell and Rachelle Russell, one son, Reginald Russell, all of Las Vegas; four brothers, Robert Russell of West Monroe, La., Tony Russell of Las Vegas, Lenard Russell and John Lewis Russell of Monroe; five sisters, Carol A. Russell, Velda T. Williams, Dorothy J. Harris and Everlena R. Mitchell, all of Las Vegas, and Gertrude Wright of Shreveport, La.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in American Burial and Cremation Services, 310 Foremaster Lane. A memorial service is scheduled 2 p.m. Saturday in Calvary Southern Baptist Church, 1600 E. Cartier Ave. The burial is private.

SOL STONE

Sol Stone, 86, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 20, 1911, in London. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired diamond setter and a World War II Air Force veteran.

He is survived by one brother, David Stone of Tampa, Fla.

JOHN WILLIAM THOMPSON

John William Thompson, 85, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Detroit. A resident for 23 years, he was a warehouseman at a printing company, an Army veteran and a Mason.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; two sons, William and Patrick, both of California; and two grandchildren.

Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North handled arrangements.

YASAR ORHAN UYSAL

Yasar Orhan Uysal, 46, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Feb. 18, 1952, in Ankara, Turkey. A resident for 15 years, he was a plumber.

Graveside services were scheduled 3 p.m today in Paradise Memorial Gardens. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. handled arrangements.

MOSEL WATSON

Mosel Watson, 75, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born March 3, 1923, in Delhi, La. A resident for 52 years, he was an auto mechanic, a Nevada Test Site employee, an usher at Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church and an Army veteran.

He is survived by one brother, Charlie Watson Jr. of Detroit.

Visitation is scheduled noon-8 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services are scheduled 11 a.m. Saturday at Greater Evergreen Missionary Baptist Church, 1915 Lexington St. Burial will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

PATRICIA BRENNA WENDELL

Patricia Brenna Wendell, 42, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born April 29, 1956, in San Diego. A resident for 38 years, she was a student, and a Persian Gulf War Navy veteran.

She is survived by her parents, Michael J. and Betty J. Wendell, and one sister, Theresa O' Dea, all of Las Vegas; and one brother, Michael Wendell Jr. of Monroe, Wash.

Services are 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

The family suggests donations to St. Vincent's Homeless Shelter, 1501 Las Vegas Blvd. North, Las Vegas, NV 89101.

ROBERT L. WOODS

Robert L. Woods, 78, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1920, in Oklahoma. A resident for 11 months, he was a pool player and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Billyrea; one son, Woody Woods of Las Vegas; one grandchild and three great-grandchildren.
