PETA calls off protest over Berosini's orangutans

A People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals protest of the Tropicana hotel-casino Saturday has been called off.

Peta had planned to protest the Tropicana because the hotel-casino had allegedly been considering hiring Las Vegan Bobby Berosini and his orangutan act.

The protest was canceled after Tropicana officials said that they had never planned to hire Berosini.

Berosini and his orangutans had headlined for much of the 1980s at the Stardust hotel-casino's Lido de Paris show until publicity and protests over allegations that he beat his orangutans forced the act to close.

Berosini had been part of a photo concession with one of his orangutans at the Tropicana, but the hotel-casino ended that relationship two weeks ago, said Jonathan Swain, President and General Manager of the resort.
