Editorial: Gingrich looks for a green makeover

There likely will be photo opportunities showing him in the natural splendor of Alaska. What Gingrich hopes will go unnoticed is that this is really a junket arranged by a radical anti-environmental group, the Western States Coalition, a group dedicated to furthering the interests of timber, mining and oil companies.

Gingrich may delude himself into thinking that wrapping himself in the Alaskan environment will help his image, but his association with the Western States Coalition will only erode his standing with those who care about the environment. Instead of working with extremists, Gingrich should jump aboard the growing bandwagon of conservative and liberal lawmakers who believe that finding common ground makes for the best environmental policies.
