Fallon air base tightens security

Base spokeswoman Anne McMillin said the base went on heightened alert after President Clinton ordered the Aug. 18 bombing of terrorist centers in Sudan and Afghanistan.

"Yes, we are at heightened security and, yes, it's due to the conditions around the world," McMillin told the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard.

"But it's pretty much business as usual. The outside world would not notice anything different."

Normal training exercises and base tours still are being conducted, she said.

McMillin declined to reveal what extra security measures have been taken, saying such a disclosure would defeat the purpose of enacting them.
