Letter: Government workers' retirement benefits should be limited

Because we are all created equal, let's put all federal and state employees under the Social Security plan with a cap of no more than $4,000 a month upon retirement.

This group of people enjoys a much higher standard of living on their retirement than do Social Security recipients -- especially politicians who vote their own pay raises and retirement increases and who feel free to arrogate from Social Security funds.

What is wrong with this unequal system is that not only are we taxpayers footing the bill, but we are threatened with later (age 70) retirement and/or losing what we have worked for.

Pooling these funds is the only way to guarantee protection of our security in our old age. It would also provide a more decent and equal retirement standard of living for all the people -- not just for the chosen ones.

There is no doubt that politicians would guard Social Security with their lives if this was their retirement plan.
