Sparks mayor delays ethics hearing

The Sept. 16 hearing in Reno has been postponed until Nov. 12 or 13. Breslow sought the delay because he'll be in Malaysia Sept. 6-24.

The complaint against Breslow was prompted by resident David Farside, who provided phone records showing the mayor ran up more than $2,600 in charges between July 1997 and April 1998.

The activity included 194 calls to home and 91 calls to offices and clients.

Breslow admitted using his phone for personal long-distance calls when he reimbursed the city for $257 and turned in his cell phone on June 1.

A week later, the Sparks City Council decided not to conduct an audit of the mayor's phone use because of his actions.

Use of city phones for personal business is prohibited.
