Obituaries for February 5, 1998

Frank Roger Brazzale, 77, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 13, 1920, in Wyoming. A resident for six months, he was a retired letter carrier and a Coast Guard veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Eleanor; four sons, Frank Brazzale IV, Ernest Brazzale and John Brazzale, all of Wyoming, and Tony Brazzale of Colorado; one daughter, Cathy Syring of Texas; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation was to begin at 10 a.m. today in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will be private.

RAYLYN COLLINS CAREY

Raylyn Collins Carey, 74, of Las Vegas and Reno, died Tuesday in Las Vegas. A homemaker, she was born Sept. 13, 1923, in Reno.

She is survived by one son, Ronald Carey of Aloha, Ore.; three daughters, Diane Lick of Azusa, Calif., Joan Rainford of Las Vegas and Pamela Ferguson of Simi Valley, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

HELEN V. CROTTY

Helen V. Crotty, 84, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born April 7, 1913, in Ames, Iowa. A resident for two years, she was in the eucharistic ministry at St. Vincent De Paul in Oregon.

She is survived by three sons, Kent Watkins, Danno Crotty and Michael Crotty; six daughters, Kathleen Braasch, Karen Hernandez, Mary Kokoszka, Maureen Relyea, Barbara Smith and Margaret Mendiola; one brother, Otto Petersen; three sisters, Ruth Napier, Polly Sauker and Doris Waind; 23 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

Services will be 10 a.m. Friday in St. Christopher's Catholic Church. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

WILLIAM DEFEO

William DeFeo, 76, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born March 24, 1921, in New Jersey. A longtime resident, he was a retired casino bus driver and a World War II Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by two sons, Michael DeFeo of New Jersey and William DeFeo of Florida; and one daughter, Debra DeFeo of New Jersey.

Services are private. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

COURT E. DOHERTY

Court E. Doherty, 77, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 22, 1920, in California. A resident for five years, he was retired and was an Army veteran.

He is survived by one son, Brian Doherty, and one brother, David Doherty, both of California.

DONALD ROY DUENOW

Donald Roy Duenow, 62, of Las Vegas died Jan. 23 in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 30, 1935, in Wisconsin. A resident for 27 years, he was an apartment maintenance worker.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; one son, Carl Edward Duenow; and one daughter, Mary Katherine Duenow.

ROBERT A. EADES

Robert A. Eades, 53, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born March 18, 1944, in Alabama. A resident for 31 years, he was a dealer at the Desert Inn for 28 years.

He is survived by his mother, Lorraine C. Eades.

OPAL MARY ELSBERRY

Opal Mary Elsberry, 86, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local care center. She was born April 13, 1911, in Kansas. A longtime resident, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas.

SILVIO 'JACK MARTIN' FINI

Silvio "Jack Martin" Fini, 80, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1917, in Leominster, Mass. A resident for 55 years, he was a retired entertainer/agent, a World War II Army veteran, a colonel in the Kentucky Colonels and a supporter of St. Jude's Ranch for Children.

He is survived by his wife, Patty; two daughters, Shirley Lemoine of Leominster and Katherine Wright of Las Vegas; three sons, Jack Lemoine and Mark Fini, both of Las Vegas and Chris Fini of Genoa; his mother, Sara Fini of Leominster; four sisters, Nelda Castriotta of California, Sue Fini of Massachusetts, Dolly Curtin of North Carolina and Nina Tisdale of Las Vegas; three brothers, John Fini and Herbie Fini, both of Leominster, and Wally Fini of Florida; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled noon-8 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 3 p.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

PATRICIA WIXSOM FREEMAN

Patricia Wixsom Freeman, 52, of Las Vegas died Jan. 22 in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 10, 1945, in San Francisco. A resident for nine years, she was a bookkeeper for an automobile firm.

She is survived by one son, Vernon Freeman III; one daughter, Laura Freeman; one sister, JoAnn Lockett; and five grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

WILLIAM 'DWITE' FUNK

William "Dwite" Funk, 76, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 24, 1922, in White River, S.D. A longtime resident, he was a head custodian for the Clark County School District.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; one son, Sharry Galen Funk, and one daughter, Connie Sandoval, both of Las Vegas; two sisters, Hallie Cordes of Rapid City, S.D., and Ada Ferguson of Sturgis, S.D.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 6-8 p.m. Friday in Bunker Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Additional visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services Saturday in the Red Coach LDS Chapel. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

VIRGINIA C. GOSSETT

Virginia C. Gossett, 56, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. She was born Oct. 4, 1941, in Little Rock, Ark. A resident for seven years, she was a retired federal government purchasing agent.

She is survived by two sons, Danny R. Walker and Randy J. Walker, both of Rigby, Idaho; one daughter, Wendy K. Walker of Fort Worth, Texas; her mother, Christine Hinton, and one sister, Kathy Renio, both of Las Vegas; two brothers, Dexter Lintz of Valrico, Fla., and James Gossett of Lanesville, Ind.; and 13 grandchildren.

A memorial service was scheduled at 11 a.m. today in Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd.

GENEVA N. HENDERSON

Geneva N. Henderson, 87, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 22, 1910, in Coolidge, Texas. A resident for two months, she was a retired seamstress, a member of the Eastern Star and American Gold Star Mothers.

She is survived by two daughters, Vester Jean Bernard of Henderson and Vira Newsome of Los Angeles; one son, Aubrey Henderson of Lakeview Terrace, Calif.; one sister, Vera Horton of Las Vegas; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is private. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

DAGMAR OLIVE HICKS

Dagmar Olive Hicks, 89, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 31, 1908, in Braham, Minn. A resident for 63 years, she was a retired longtime nurse at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital (University Medical Center), a member of the Mesquite Club and the Salvation Army, enjoyed gardening and sewing.

She is survived by one son, James Hicks of Las Vegas; one daughter, Kathryn Morelli of San Francisco; two sisters, Helen Stovall of Fort Collins, Colo., and Edna Underhill of San Diego; and two grandchildren.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday in Bunker Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

ROBERT JEFFREY HILL

Robert Jeffrey Hill, 44, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 6, 1954, in California. A resident for four years, he was a cement truck driver for Nevada Ready Mix and a member of Teamsters Union Local 631.

He is survived by his wife, Kimberlie Douglas Hill; two daughters, Robin Hill and Jeannie Hill, his parents, Reginald and Sally Brown Hill, two brothers, Jim Hill and Chris Hill, and one sister, Mary Ann Dugan, all of California.

ALFRED DONALD JOHNSON

Alfred Donald Johnson, 90, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local care center. He was born Nov. 27, 1907, in Terrebonne Parish, La. A resident for 22 years, he was a retired waiter.

He is survived by his wife, Mary P.; two daughters, Donna L. Sudan of Las Vegas and Kathleen L. Aulucino of Montclaire, N.J.; one son, Alfred Michael Johnson of Seattle; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

CECIL JONES

Cecil Jones, 96, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 29, 1901, in Oklahoma. A longtime resident, she was a homemaker, a member of the Eastern Star, White Shrine of Jerusalem and Order of the Amaranth.

She is survived by three daughters, Frances James of Las Vegas, Georgia Boyd of San Leandro, Calif., and Betty Graeber of Petaluma, Calif.; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

JOHN JONES IV

John Jones IV, 30, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. He was born Nov. 2, 1967, in Detroit. A longtime resident, he was a short order cook.

He is survived by his parents, John and Darlene Jones III.

MICHAEL LEE MENG

Michael Lee Meng, 52, died Jan. 13 in Los Angeles. He was born July 17, 1945, in Los Angeles. A resident of Las Vegas from 1963-1997, he was a construction engineer and a Vietnam War Army veteran.

He is survived his wife, Alice of Las Vegas; two children; four stepchildren; his mother, Dora Meng, three brothers, Donald Meng, Ronald Meng and John Meng, and three sisters, Linda Carpenter, Carol Greathouse and Nancy Perry, all of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and five step-grandchildren.

A rosary will be 15 minutes prior to a 10:30 a.m. Mass Saturday in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive. Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Horace Pyle, of Las Vegas died Dec. 19 in Las Vegas.

Alfonso "Al" Jaime Riojas, 41, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born May 18, 1956, in Las Vegas. A lifelong resident, he was a sheet metal worker, a 1974 Rancho High School graduate, an Eagle Scout and an avid scuba diver.

He is survived by his parents, Hector and Consuelo Riojas, and one son, Taj Riojas, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Hector Riojas Jr. of Peoria, Ariz.; and two sisters, Rosa Morin of Las Vegas and Norma Martinez of Long Beach, Calif.

She is survived by her husband, Gregory; one daughter, Julianne Monoyudis, and one brother, Iley Roberson, both of Las Vegas; and one grandson.

Joe E. Taylor, 72, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Russellville, Ark. A resident for 33 years, he was a mechanic for the housing authority and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; two sons, Larry Taylor and Steve Taylor, both of Las Vegas; one daughter, Rebecca Jones of Windsor, S.C.; one brother, Alan Taylor of North Little Rock, Ark.; five sisters, Eliza Brock of Belleville, Ark., Sue Cudia of Reno, Goldie Cole and Mary Ayers, both of Dinuba, Calif., and Frances Wade of Weeping Water, Neb.; nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

George Hoyt Truett, 67, of Pahrump, died Wednesday in Pahrump. He was born Oct. 22, 1930, in Hillsboro, Fla. A resident for seven years, he was a retired Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jean R.; four sons, David Ayers, Donald Truett, Ronald Truett and John Truett, and three daughters, Linda Ayers, Bonnie McAhren and Kathy Wicks, all of California; and 12 grandchildren.

George Frederick Veit Jr., 42, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 1, 1955, in Alexandria, La. A resident for 15 years, he was a manager at an automotive repair shop, an avid ball player and bicyclist.

He is survived by his wife, Sheral; three daughters, Sara Veit, Racheal Veit and Caitlyn Veit, and one son, Merrick Veit, all of Las Vegas; his father, George Veit of New Jersey; his mother, Connie Veit of England; and one brother, Merrick Veit of Louisiana.

Kathleen Diane Wheeler, 55, of Henderson died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 1, 1943, in Belle Plaine, Iowa. A resident for four years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Kenny Wheeler of Gatesville, Texas, and Brian Wheeler of Mesa, Ariz.; two daughters, Kristine A. Hall of Henderson and Stacy Secor of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one sister, Mariann Bunch of Belen, N.M.; and four grandchildren.

Frances M. Woodrum, 76, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. A resident for 70 years, she was born Oct. 11, 1921, in San Jose, Calif.

She is survived by her husband, R.E. "Woody" Woodrum; two daughters, Francine A. Woodrum and Teri J. Woodrum, and one son, Brandon J. Woodrum, all of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.
