Houston Aeros 6, San Antonio Dragons 0

HOUSTON--The Houston Aeros (28-10-4) won their fifth straight Wednesday night, shutting out the San Antonio Dragons 6-0 in front of 6,419 at the Compaq Center. David Oliver paced the Aeros with two goals and an assist. His second tally ignited a four-goal third period charge completed by Rob Valisevic at 6:38, Brent Hughes at 7:59 and Neil Brady at 9:02. Ken McRae also scored for Houston, in the second period, and Brian Wiseman took over the IHL assists lead with his 41st and 42nd of the year. Goalie Ryan Bach stopped 27 San Antonio shots to post his fifth shutout. Steve Passmore also made 27 saves in the losing effort, on 33 chances. The Dragons (11-26-4) have lost nine in a row.

Detroit Vipers 2, Indianapolis Ice 1 (SO)

AUBURN HILLS, Mich.--The Detroit Vipers (25-9-6) prevailed in a 13-round shootout to beat the Indianapolis Ice 2-1 Wednesday at The Palace. Dan Kesa iced the Vipers' eighth straight win with their third goal of the tiebreaker. John Gruden scored in the third round and Dave Paradise in the tenth. Indianapolis forward Ryan Huska, whose fifth round goal sent the shootout to sudden death, scored the game's first goal, 14 seconds into the second period. Keith Aldridge equalized 16 seconds later. The Ice (15-22-3) managed only 17 shots in regulation, 16 of them stopped by goalie Jeff Reese. Marc Lamothe turned away 25 of 26 for Indianapolis.

Manitoba Moose 4, Chicago Wolves 1

ROSEMONT, Ill.--Greg Pankewicz had a hat trick to lead the Manitoba Moose (15-19-4) to a 4-1 win over the Midwest Division-leading Chicago Wolves (30-9-2) Wednesday before 6,105 at the Rosemont Horizon. The loss snapped a 16-game winning streak for Wolves goalie Wendell Young. Pankewicz scored once in each period, giving him 20 for the season. His first goal came just 15 seconds into the game, and was the quickest ever allowed by the Wolves defense. Jimmy Roy rounded out the Moose scoring, at 16:29 of the opening period. Tim Bergland's second period goal saved Chicago from the shutout. Winning goalie Rich Parent faced 38 shots and made 37 saves. Young stopped 27 of 31.

Utah Grizzlies 2, Orlando Solar Bears 1

WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah--Mark Lawrence's power play goal at 19:16 of the second period gave the Utah Grizzlies (24-11-4) their first-ever win over the Orlando Solar Bears, 2-1 Tuesday in front of 6,744 at The "E" Center. Fred Knipscheer put the Grizzlies up by a goal 7:10 into the game, also on a power play. Ben Hankinson scored at 1:44 of the second period to tie the score at 1-1. The Grizzlies outshot Orlando 44-28, but were frustrated by goalie Bruce Littman, who was named a star of the game for his 42-save performance. Wade Flaherty made 27 saves to post the win. The Solar Bears drop to 18-16-6.
