Last day to file for public office in Nevada

Jim Lee, 77, filed as a Libertarian candidate for state controller. A toolmaker by trade, Lee said he's qualified to oversee Nevada's finances "because I raised a family of seven children."

Just before Lee filed, perennial Libertarian candidate Kent Cromwell of Reno filed for attorney general.

Boulder City day laborer Lee Wayne Haynes declared his candidacy as an independent, seeking the U.S. Senate seat held by incumbent Sen. Harry Reid, D-Nev.

But before the secretary of state accepts his candidacy, Haynes must turn in petitions signed by at least 2,373 voters. He has a week to submit the petitions.
