Elko officials take on Forest Service over road repair

About a mile of the road was destroyed between the Snowslide Trailhead and Pine Creek Campground in 1995 by a flood that altered the course of the Jarbidge River.
A Forest Service environmental assessment suggests no action to repair the road, contradicting a previous recommendation to fix the road that was opposed by environmental groups, the Elko Daily Free Press reported.
Commissioner Tony Lesperance said the county should hire Bill Price, a title and lands research expert, to determine if the county has jurisdiction to repair South Canyon Road, instead of waiting for the forest service.
