Editorial: Local charity left without donation

This is the same Las Vegas couple, who claim that Misra's wealth is worth $5 billion, that had sought to buy the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. But team officials rejected their offer because they didn't submit an acceptable bid.

No matter what you think of their offer for the Vikings, it's appalling what they've done to a local charity, Active Blind and Visually Impaired of Nevada. In a newspaper ad on May 24, the couple boasted of making a $5.1 million donation to the group.

In fact, as the Sun's Tim Graham and Gary Thompson reported last week, much of the proposed donation consists of worthless railroad bonds and unconfirmed real estate holdings. If the couple is actually worth $5 billion, they should have no trouble immediately coming up with the cash for the group. Otherwise, their philanthropic gesture will be seen as a sick public relations stunt.
