Letter: Republicans involved in money grab to continue to help the wealthy

Could it be a nefarious scheme by the GOP to put Clinton under a character cloud so they can unobtrusively and quietly pull off a money grab for the rich?

Gingrich now seeks to reduce the top rate on capital gains from 20 percent to 15 percent. This comes only a year after Congress cut the top rate from 28 percent to 20 percent.

Meanwhile, the attacks on the wallets of the nonrich continue. The House recently cut in half the legal aid for the poor.

Rep. John Kasich has proposed a budget bill that cuts Medicaid and other benefits for the poor in order to get tax cuts for the rich. Rep. Dick Armey continues to push his flat tax, which is just another tax cut for the rich.

In justifying cutting the capital gains tax, Gingrich maintained it would spur more economic activity and bring in more revenue. It sounds to me to be a revival of "trickle down" economics broached by President Reagan.
