Carpenters' union agrees to new three-year contract

The new contract for the Southern California-Nevada Regional Council of Carpenters will give members an immediate raise of $1.56 an hour. Pay increases will also be given in December.

Union members had rejected a new agreement last week, allowing their old contract to expire.

"We went back to the table and addressed the concerns of our members in some very tough negotiations," said Marc Furman, union spokesman.

The contract approved Monday provides for improved job conditions, protection for benefit trust funds and establishes a labor management group to make sure area standards and state and federal laws are followed.
