Elko County DA proposes homicide squad

He pitched Elko County Commissioners on the idea of combining some detectives from the county sheriff's department and the city police department to help with high-priority cases. Each agency has four detectives.

Woodbury, who was Eureka County's top prosecutor before winning the job in Elko County, said it took Nevada Division of Investigation agents 10 hours to respond to the scene of a murder he is prosecuting in Eureka County, the Elko Daily Free Press reported.

And he said that additional help would have been vital in last year's Domino's Pizza murder case in Elko because the city's four detectives were tied up at the murder scene and could not conduct potentially vital interviews shortly after the murder occurred.

Commissioners didn't comment on the proposal but said it would be placed on the agenda as soon as Woodbury has a working agreement with Eureka County ready to present.
