COOKING WORKSHOP

A salad and pesto cooking workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to noon July 18 at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, located at 599 Greenway Road. The workshop is sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department and participation costs $15 per person. An additional $5 for supplies is due to the instructor at class time.

The instructor will demonstrate how to prepare a variety of salsas and pestos consisting of fresh fruits, vegetables, spices, and herbs. Dishes will range from traditional favorites to contemporary recipes.

SOUTHERN BARBECUE WORKSHOP

A Southern-style barbecue rib cooking workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 13 at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, located at 500 Harris Street. The workshop is sponsored by the City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department and adult participation is $20 per person. An additional $5 fee is due to instructor at class time.

Participants will be introduced to a variety of techniques used to prepare Southern-style ribs and barbecued chicken. The instructor will also focus on combining spices to create sauces and preparing side dishes such as potato salad and baked beans.

WORKSHOP TARGETS HUNTING SAFETY

The City of Henderson and Recreation Department and the Nevada Division of Wildlife will co-sponsor a 5-day hunter education workshop from 9 a.m. to noon between July 13-17. It will be presented at the Black Mountain Recreation Center, located at 599 Greenway Road.

Conducted by a representative of the Nevada Division of Wildlife, the workshop emphasizes the importance of hunter's safety and provides an overview of Nevada's hunting laws. All participants who successfully complete the course will be issued a hunter safety card, which is required prior to applying for a state hunting license.
