Letter: Garbage transfer station begs solution of more recycling

Instead of finding more places to store trash, why don't we find ways to have less trash? Better yet, why don't we act as though we don't have any other options? Communities that have very limited trash disposal facilities adopt meaningful recycling programs and enforce them.

The simple yet complete reminder -- "reduce, reuse, recycle" -- make a world of difference. Many individuals take it seriously. But it's a drop in the bucket when Silver State doesn't provide opportunities for people in apartments to recycle selectively, excluding many items that other cities recycle.

It is inexcusable that many businesses have no recycling policy at all. Why don't big businesses, like the school district, have a clear and determined commitment for a comprehensive recycling policy?

This is not a disposable society and we have to stop acting like we have endless resources. The cooperative efforts between commissioners and Silver State executives need to change focus. Clark County has a beautiful opportunity to set a national example with this issue. Let's make it a positive one.
