Washoe Commission divided on tax hike

Right now, it's questionable whether even two of them will agree on the question when it comes up for discussion on Tuesday.

Chairwoman Joanne Bond wants a specific list of some $300 million worth of projects before she votes.

Mike Mouliot and Sue Camp are seeking election in November along with Bond and aren't likely to approve any tax hikes.

Jim Shaw says the Commission can approve the increases without a vote of the people. Jim Galloway thinks the voters should decide.

At issue is a quarter-cent hike in the sales tax. One-eighth of a cent would go to pay off bonds for the railroad tracks. The other eighth of a cent would apply to flood control and projects including a fire and police training center and a new dispatch center.
