Former officer involved in shooting bypassed for Henderson job

Christopher Brady was cut from a list of candidates after a personality assessment.

Henderson spokeswoman Vicki Taylor confirmed Brady was no longer a candidate. He made it to the final 25 in contention for the job out of 300 applicants.

Brady was driving a truck on Dec. 28, 1996 when Las Vegan Daniel Mendoza was shot to death in a drive-by shooting.

Brady said fellow officer Ron Mortensen shot Mendoza. Brady admitted driving the truck that was used in the shooting.

Mortensen was convicted in District Court of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

During his trial, Mortensen maintained his innocence and said Brady was the gunman.

Brady, the key witness in the case, was never charged.
