Last year: Justin Leonard won at Royal Troon, finishing with a 6-under 66 for a three-stroke victory over Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke and Sweden's Jesper Parnevik. Leonard had a 12-under 272 total.
Last week: Lee Westwood won the Standard Life Loch Lomond, the English star's third victory in his last four European starts. He had an 8-under 276 total for a four-stroke victory over five players. ... Steve Jones won the PGA Tour's Quad City Classic, finishing with a 17-under 263 total for a one-stroke victory over Scott Gump.
Notes: Leonard is attempting to become the first repeat winner since five-time champion Tom Watson in 1983 at Birkdale. ... Tiger Woods tied for 24th last year. He made two appearances as an amateur, tying for 68th in 1995 at St. Andrews and tying for 22nd in 1996 at Royal Lytham. ... Jack Nicklaus withdrew because of a hip injury, ending his streak of 154 consecutive majors for which he was eligible. Nicklaus, 58, said Monday he will leave the PGA Tour in 2000 after playing the four major tournaments. ... Westwood will receive a $1 million bonus from Standard Life if he wins the tournament. He has seven victories in seven countries in the last nine months. ... England's Nick Faldo, a three-time winner, withdrew from the Loch Lomond tournament because of a right elbow injury. ... U.S. Amateur champion Matt Kuchar is making his first appearance in the tournament. The Georgia Tech star tied for 21st in the Masters and tied for 14th in the U.S. Open. ... Last year: Michele Redman won her first tour title, completing a wire-to-wire victory with a tournament-record 272 total. Sweden's Annika Sorenstam finished second, three strokes back.
Last week: Se Ri Pak followed her U.S. Women's Open victory with a record-setting performance in the Jamie Farr Kroger Classic. The 20-year-old South Korean star set LPGA scoring records for 18 holes (61), consecutive rounds (124) and 72 holes (261). She matched the mark for relation to par of 23-under. Lisa Hackney finished second, nine strokes back.
Notes: Pak, also the LPGA Championship winner, leads the money list with $645,170. She is attempting to become the first player to win three straight tournaments since JoAnne Carner in 1982. The tour record is four by Mickey Wright (1962, 1963) and Kathy Whitworth (1969). Nancy Lopez set the record for victories in consecutive starts in 1978, winning five times in a six-tournament stretch. ... Betsy King won the inaugural tournament in 1990 and successfully defended her title in 1991. ... The Giant Eagle LPGA Classic is next week at Warren, Ohio, followed by the du Maurier Classic at Windsor, Ontario. ... The tour's Web site is www.lpga.com.

Last year: Billy Ray Brown closed with a 4-under 67 for a one-stroke victory over Mike Standly. Brown had a 17-under 271 total.

Notes: The tournament became an official event in 1994, its first year at Annandale after 26 years at Hattiesburg Country Club. The event will move to the fall either next year or in 2000. ... Chip Beck, a four-time PGA Tour winner and one of only two players to shoot a 59 in a tour event, has failed to complete a tournament in 41 straight starts. Last year: Gil Morgan won the third of six 1997 titles, closing with a 2-over 74 in windy conditions for a one-stroke victory over Hale Irwin. Morgan had a 6-under 210 total.
Last week: Morgan won the Senior Players Championship at Dearborn, Mich., for his tour-high fourth victory of the year. He shot 69-64-68-66 for a 21-under 267 total. Irwin finished second, three strokes back.
Notes: Morgan, also The Tradition winner, will be seeking his third senior major title next week in the U.S Senior Open at Riviera - the site of his 1983 Los Angeles Open victory. ... Irwin won the 1995 tournament at Stonebridge Country Club for the first of his 17 senior titles. The three-time U.S. Open winner has three victories this year and leads the money list with $1,540,250. ... The tournament is in its third year at Kemper Lakes, the site of Payne Stewart's 1989 PGA victory. ... CBS announcer Gary McCord will make his first senior start in the U.S. Senior Open.

Notes: Casey Martin, allowed to use a cart under a federal court ruling, tied for 66th last week in the PGA Tour's Quad City Classic. Martin, who has a circulatory disorder in his right leg, won the Nike Tour's season-opening Lakeland Classic. ... Clark Dennis shot a course-record 60 last year. ... The Wichita Open is next week.
