Teen gets five weeks in jail for shooting friend

Michelle Ogle, who was 15 at the time of the shooting, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in April.

Joie Muth was shot at close range when 20 to 25 gang members gathered at Pittman Elementary School on Feb. 6, 1996.

The gathering purportedly was for a peace talk, but turned out to be an ambush, police said. A fight broke out during which two teens fired weapons.

Joie was struck in the chest as the crowd scattered, and later died at a Las Vegas hospital.

Police said the two girls were on the same side of the gang brawls though both were essentially "wannabe gang members" rather than actually affiliated.

Ogle will also be on probation and will have to perform community service.
