Man sought in rape of twelve-year-old girl

A 12-year-old girl was tied up and raped at her residence Wednesday after a man who was seen earlier knocking on doors in the neighborhood forced his way into the home and locked a 3-year-old girl in a bathroom.

A manhunt following the assault resulted in the capture of a man fitting the description of the rapist, but as it turned out the man who was apprehended was not the one Metro Police were looking for.

Though the man in custody was not the rapist, Sgt. Rick Vonfeldt said he was wanted on parole violations.

Police still are looking for the rapist, who is described as a white male between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, 130 to 150 pounds, 30 to 35 years old, with brown hair down to his ears, hazel eyes, cracked and discolored upper tooth, and a tattoo on his inner right arm from wrist to elbow.

Sgt. Clint Robison said the suspect was wearing faded blue jeans, white T-shirt, brown belt with plain silver buckle and a baseball cap.

The rape occurred at about 11:30 a.m. in a residential neighborhood in the area of Jones Boulevard and Vegas Drive.

Robison said the 12-year-old girl answered a knock at the door of her residence and the suspect asked for directions to a street in the neighborhood and left.

He returned 20 minutes later and asked for a drink of water and to use the phone and then forced his way into the home.

According to Robison the man locked a 3-year-old girl in a bathroom, tied up the older girl and sexually assaulted her.

"The suspect had been seen walking in the neighborhood knocking on doors prior to the assault," Robison said.

Vonfeldt said when the alleged parole violator fled from police, who were looking for the rapist, they thought they might have the man they were looking for.

After a manhunt that lasted more than 30 minutes, the man was found hiding in bushes next to a house in the area of Pocono Way and Carmen Boulevard.
