Editorial: Reject project on Mount Charleston

There is no reason why 13 acres on Kyle Canyon Road should be rezoned to allow a Western-themed commercial center into what has long been an idyllic getaway from the commercialism found in the valley. Adding more commercial space will only harm the alpine treasure's beauty. In addition, not enough consideration has been given the project's impact on fire safety, water and traffic.

Commissioners did the right thing in May when they voted to reconsider their previous decision. Now is the time to reject this unnecessary development on Mount Charleston for the sake of this and future generations.
