Letter: Valley too costly for retired citizens

How can retired citizens afford to live here? We don't have children and we are not old enough for government medical aid. Yet, we are on a fixed income and asked to pay more and more "fees."

Let me give you an example: We removed our lawn to put in desert landscaping and now our water bill is higher than before.

Where is this money supposed to come from? We're already tightening our belts to the backbone and everyone wants "more money for the children."

Now our property taxes have gone up and I doubt anyone would even pay 70 percent of what this place costs.

Guess what else? We pay full price for medication from the pharmacy, plus the HMO fee, plus $5 -- we actually thought we'd be reimbursed. What a dream!

I guess the last thing I can say as a disgruntled voter, I'd rather run for office myself. If only I had the money.
