Grasshoppers descend on Pahrump

The little critters have propagated like crazy following the wet winter and are staging a short-lived invasion similar to one earlier this year in Laughlin.

State entomologist Jeff Knight told the Pahrump Valley Times that the heat will be the end of the grasshoppers, but until they succumb, they'll gather in hordes at night anyplace there's light.

He added that, unlike the so-called Mormon crickets, which actually are grasshoppers, the kind hanging around Pahrump isn't very destructive and tend to leave crops and ornamentals alone.
