Charles R. Bennett, 74, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 22, 1923, in New York City. A resident for 40 years, he was retired from Stauffer Chemical after 26 years and worked on the Steel Workers Union's Health and Welfare Committee for many years.
He is survived by three daughters, Arlene Munford of Henderson, Diane Carreras of Las Vegas and Lorraine Ireland of Texas; two sons, Stephen Bennett of Boulder City and Michael Bennett of Henderson; and seven grandchildren.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. A private burial will follow.
RITA BRANDWEIN
Rita Brandwein, 75, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born May 4, 1923, in Odessa, Russia. A resident for eight years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Juli; one daughter, Lora Stavinsky, and two sons, Jack Brandwein and Benjamin Brandwein, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Edith Ehrlich of Miami; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.
MAXINE M. BROOKRESON
Maxine M. Brookreson, 68, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 18, 1929, in Dibble, Okla. A resident for 12 years, she was a saleswoman at JCPenney.
She is survived by one daughter, Georgia Weschitz of Las Vegas; one son, John F. Brookreson of Pahrump; two brothers, Bert Coldiron of California and Gene Coldiron of Texas; one sister, Sue Peterson of New Mexico; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.
BEVERLY JOANNE CORDOVA
Beverly Joanne Cordova, 68, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 17, 1929, in Rock Island, Ill. A resident for one year, she was a former registered nurse for a neurosurgeon in New Mexico.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Wright of Las Vegas; one son, Daniel Cordova of Albuquerque, N.M.; and three grandchildren.
No local services are scheduled. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.
VERA MARIE JOHNSON
Vera Marie Johnson, 87, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. A resident for six years, she was born Dec. 28, 1910, in Lanesville, W.Va.
She is survived by two daughters, Judith DePascale of Ohio and Susan Marshall of Las Vegas; one sister, Maxine Figner of Pennsylvania; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

JULIUS JOSEPH MELE
Julius Joseph Mele, 86, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 4, 1912, in Troy, N.Y. A resident for 10 years, he was an upholsterer in the furniture business.
He is survived by his wife, Edith; two daughters, Patricia Szydlowski of Rowayton, Conn., and Ella Mae Mele of New York; two brothers, Samuel Mele and Nicholas Mele, both of Troy; three sisters, Angela Conti and Rose Vertone, both of Troy, and Pamela Demski of Latham, N.Y.; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.
HARRY M. OKIN
Harry M. Okin, 69, of Mesa, Ariz., died Thursday in Cleveland. A former Las Vegas resident, he was a former executive at the Desert Inn and at Caesars Palace in Atlantic City, N.J., a Korean War Army veteran, senior vice commander of Jewish War Veterans Post 128, president of Leisure World, a member of Shalom Group and a 32nd degree Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; one daughter, Stacey York of Phoenix; two sons, Roger of Mesa, Ariz., and Larry of Las Vegas; one sister, Dolores Klein, and one brother, Ben, both of Cleveland; and six grandchildren.
No local services are scheduled. Green Acres Mortuary, Scottsdale, Ariz., is handling arrangements.
The family suggests contributions to the donor's favorite charity.

Edith Shapiro, 78, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 12, 1920, in New York City. A resident for 23 years, she was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Sonny; three daughters, Anne Salus, Laura Shapiro and Irene Tallard, and one son, David Shapiro, all of Las Vegas; one brother, Harry Gair of Boca Raton, Fla.; and two grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

Stephen Smith, 73, of Henderson died Tuesday in Henderson. He was born Oct. 10, 1924, in Utah. A resident for nine years, he was a retired electronics engineer and a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by two daughters, Patti Kaufman of Kerrville, Texas, and Linda Dunzo of Santa Ana, Calif.; one son, Robert Smith of Chino, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

ROMA ELLEN TAYLOR
Roma Ellen Taylor, 82, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Feb. 13, 1916, in Minot, N.D. A resident for 21 years, she was a retired registered nurse, a member of the Carnation Garden Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Southern Nevada Ceramics Association and the Dorcas Society at University Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Harry M.; one daughter, Sharon Hancock of Las Vegas; one son, Thomas C. Taylor of Las Cruces, N.M.; one brother, Wally Anderson of Farmington, N.M.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled 2-4 p.m. Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 9 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Chapel, Main. Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Mortuary's Eden Vale Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.
