Palace Station damaged by rain, fire

It's too early to tell what kind of impact Palace Station's casino roof collapse and hotel fire will have on Station Casino's finances, officials said.

"All that's still very much up in the air," said Glenn Christenson, Station's chief financial officer.

Nor have Station officials determined the effect on Palace Station's 1,750 employees.

The hotel remained open up to the 15th floor this morning, and officials said there was no reason many of the guests could not stay in their rooms for now. But the casino will be closed for an indefinite period.

Station will try to re-open the Sahara Avenue hotel-casino as soon as possible, officials said, and until a timetable for repairs and a reopening is established, it's just too early to tell how many employees will be affected.

Station's insurance covers business interruptions, Christenson said. But he was unsure exactly how extensive the coverage is, and has not yet had a chance to determine how the closure will affect the company's bottom line.
