Letter: Convalescent hospital's staff deserves thanks

I wish to convey my heartfelt memories that my family experiences from the "Band of Angels," or commonly known as the nursing staff at North Las Vegas Convalescent Hospital, Hall 100. The dedication and devotion demonstrated by these nurses and staff was remarkable. They loved my mother as well as all of the patients.

Hall 100 is the locked down unit of the nursing home, which primarily houses victims of Alzheimer's Disease. The unit is locked for the protection of each patient, so they don't wander away.

Many heartfelt moments filled our last days with my mother. Another patient in Hall 100, who doesn't even know hot to dress herself had enough compassion to come in and straighten my mother's bed sheets, and sit down with her placing her hand into my mother's. The daughter of another patient came into the room and led us in prayer, upon learning of my mother's failing condition.

We can't say enough in appreciation toward all of these wonderful people. But it's the nurses, who work odd hours and holidays, to care for the sick and dying. With small compensation, no recognition, no public fanfare and only the reward of knowing they leave their shift having made a difference for the patients they care for and families left behind.

Most of the patients in Hall 100 may not realize what is going on, but the families of these patients acknowledge and respect the wonderful work they they all do.
