Obituaries for July 21, 1998

Rita Bent, 92, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Sept. 10, 1905, in Baltimore. A resident for 45 years, she was a manicurist.

She is survived by one son, Gerald S. Goldman; and two sisters, Adele Weinstein of Walnut Creek, Calif., and Elizabeth Vance of Los Altos, Calif.

Visitation is private. A cryptside service will be 9:30 a.m. Friday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Burial will follow in Memory Gardens.

JOHN MICHAEL CATANZARO

John Michael Catanzaro, 69, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born July 15, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 25 years, he was an office manager in the advertising industry.

He is survived by two sons, John J. Catanzaro and Jim J. Catanzaro, both of Las Vegas; two daughters, Angel Catanzaro of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Linda DeLuca of Rochester, N.Y.; one sister, Lillian Catanzaro of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Chapel. Burial will follow in Eden Vale Memorial Park.

EDWARD GOGOLA

Edward Gogola, 65, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 7, 1932, in Chicago. A resident for 26 years, he was a retired Air Force security police officer and a Vietnam War veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mirella; one son, Michael Gogola of Sparks; one daughter, Rose Ann Lewis of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is private. Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

ALICE MANLEY

Alice Manley, 85, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Corinne, Utah. A resident for 1 1/2 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Myron B. Manley of Cardston, Alberta; one daughter, Patricia Truman of Las Vegas; 12 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be 9 a.m. Wednesday in the LDS Cheyenne-Mustang Chapel. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

EUGENE PATRICK

Eugene Patrick, 78, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born June 11, 1920, in Florence, Ala. A resident for 25 years, he worked in the catering division of United Airlines and was a World War II Marine Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy R.; three daughters, Jeanne Patrick-Edgar of California and Lois Chenevey and Juanita Reyna, both of Las Vegas; four brothers, Joseph Patrick and Francis Patrick, both of Alabama, Leonard Patrick of North Carolina and Raymond Patrick of Arkansas; one sister, Evelyn Wilson of Alabama; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home.

JOHN W. PRESCOTT JR.

John W. Prescott Jr., 69, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Jan. 19, 1929, in Brockton, Mass. A resident for 46 years, he owned a floor covering business, was a Navy veteran and a member of the Sertoma Club of Las Vegas.

He is survived by one daughter, Sarah M. Lewey of Las Vegas; three sons, Arthur F. Prescott and John W. "Jack" Prescott Jr., both of Las Vegas and Michael E. Prescott of Bremerton, Wash.; one brother, Ronald W. Prescott of Las Vegas; four sisters, Alberta Kiley of Massachusetts, Virginia R. Belanger and Sarah A. Perrault, both of Florida, and Marjorie White of Maine; 19 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled 10 a.m. to a 1 p.m. service today in the Mountain View LDS Ward. Graveside services will be 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

HARRY RAMACCIOTTI

Harry Ramacciotti, 89, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local health care center. He was born May 15, 1909, in Wheaton, Ill. A resident for 44 years, he was a retired hotel executive chef and a member of Fraternity of Executive Chefs.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine; one daughter, Mary Carroll of Santa Barbara, Calif.; one brother, Francesco Ramacciotti, and one sister, Dora Ramacciotti, both of Gragnano, Italy; and one grandchild.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in St. Anne Catholic Church, 1901 S. Maryland Parkway.

CHARLES 'C.J.' ST. JOHN

Charles "C.J." St. John, 58, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born March 23, 1940, in Detroit. A resident for 26 years, he was an electrician in the construction industry, a Marine Corps and Army veteran and a member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 357.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara; six daughters, Katie Brashear of San Antonio, Betsi St. John of Scottsdale, Ariz., Lisa Orono of Tucson, Ariz., Rose Vorel and Beth Campbell, both of Reno, and Charlotte Boeke of Kalispell, Mont.; three sons, Michael St. John of Tucson, Michael Vorel of New York City and William Vorel of Las Vegas; his mother, Ilene St. John, and one brother, Raymond St. John, both of Tucson; one sister, Diana St. John of Prescott, Ariz.; 24 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

ANNE SMITH

Anne Smith, 63, of Henderson died Sunday in a local convalescent hospital. She was born July 20, 1934, in Lancaster, Ohio. A resident for 16 years, she was a retired schoolteacher and most recently a real estate agent.

She is survived by one daughter, Jamila Eid of Henderson; one brother, James Kane of Kent, Wash.; and three sisters, Lynda Tabler of Cincinnati and Nancy Primmer and Susie Williams, both of Barnesville, Ohio.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

ELIZABETH ANN STROUT

Elizabeth Ann Strout, 76, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. She was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Hattiesburg, Miss. A resident for two years, she was a homemaker, a member of the Senior Citizen Club of Henderson and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary in Hattiesburg.

She is survived by three sons, Thomas W. Soley of Roxbury, N.H., Richard Soley of Henderson and Gary S. Strout of Nashville, Tenn.; three brothers, Charles E. Wilson of Plymouth, Mass., William Wilson of Hattiesburg and Michael Wilson of Lake Charles, La.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation was scheduled one hour prior to noon services today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

MIKE THEN

Mike Then, 53, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born July 22, 1944, in St. Louis. A resident for 20 years, he was a retired federal government power technician and a Vietnam War Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Karen; one son, Darren Then, and one daughter, Tina Edwards, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Vicki Kramer of St. Louis; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services will be 8:30 a.m. Friday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.
