McCarran passenger count continues to lag behind 1997

The airport reported Wednesday that traffic in June was down 1.8 percent, while traffic for the first six months of the year was down 1.9 percent.
The figures show 2,465,008 people arrived and departed at the Las Vegas airport last month. That compares with 2,511,234 for the same period a year ago.
Through June of this year, 15,028,643 people arrived and departed at McCarran, compared to 15,319,756 for the same period in 1997.
America West reported the sharpest drop in passenger traffic, down 15 percent for the month and 13.5 percent for the first six months of the year.
Delta was down 4 percent for the month, 6 percent for the year.
Reno Air was up 17.8 percent for the month, 77.5 percent for the year.
Resort officials have complained that a drop in air service into Las Vegas is hurting efforts to keep the city's 105,000 hotel rooms filled.
Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev., has hosted two hearings between hotel executives and airline officials in efforts to beef up service to the city.
