Nevada spared from whooping cough outbreak

But Tonopah is not so lucky.

Of 19 cases of the disease reported so far, state communicable disease specialist Doug Banghart says 14 of them have occurred in Tonopah.

He says it's not known why Tonopah seems to have become a center for the outbreak, but added that children can only be vaccinated against the disease until they turn seven and most of the Nevada cases have involved adults.
